If you’ve ever driven around the State of Louisiana, you’ve clearly probably seen the poor condition of the roads in many areas. In New Orleans, for example, there is a group that has started with the sole purpose of fixing the city’s streets.
It may not come as much of a surprise is that Louisiana’s interstate highway system is actually ranked as one of the worst in the country.

Miles Traveled on Louisiana Interstate Highways is Increasing
While the state of disrepair of Louisiana’s interstate highways is problematic on its own, it is especially troubling when you consider the increase in interstate travel through Louisiana. The TRIP study also concluded that Louisiana interstate travel in the past 14 years increased by 43 percent. Notably, this was the highest percentage increase of any state in the country.
Poor roads and heavy traffic create the potential for serious accidents. It should not come as much of a surprise that Louisiana also exceeded the national average for interstate fatalities.
Traveling on the interstate is a regular task for most Louisiana residents, particularly those that have to commute for work or school. Even though they do it every day, drivers should still be mindful of the road conditions and take care when traveling to help prevent accidents and stay safe on the road.
